There was a march today. I don’t know, you saw or heard something today about it. An unprecedented amount of people came together in order to remind those in power that there is a voice that needs be heard. They will not be ignored. Here in Sacramento, they are saying close to 20,000 people marched to the capital. In Chicago, over 150,000, in Washington DC, over 500,000 people.
It’s easy for people to make it seem like it’s a small thing, not an issue and easy to ignore until it goes away. But with the sheer amount of people that came together today have made it very clear that it is not a small thing, and that it won’t just go away. There is an entire population of people that are feeling ignored that that something better than what we are going to be receiving needs to come.
I marched today alongside everyone. I understand why people say that they are marching for their wives, girlfriends, mothers, daughters, sisters. I support these women in our lives, whole heartedly. But I didn’t march for their sake today. I marched because it is the right thing to do. I don’t believe that people should need a close connection to someone who is being effected in order for them to feel they need to do something. They should want to do it, because for the sake of all of us, this is the right thing to do.
No matter what your political affiliation is, I don’t believe I, nor anyone else, has the right to oppress or hold down/back anyone else.
